Marketing and Sales; Leisa Vogel; ACT Customer Service Manager; Lisa Shirley, ACT Assistant Customer Service Manager.
On April 2, 2009, Chris Walsh and Shawn Merle of Petsmart presented the ACT team with Petsmart’s second annual “Linehaul Carrier of the Year Award”. This was only the second year for this award and the ACT team was the proud recipient both years.
Accepting the award on behalf of the team, ACT President and Chief Operating Officer, Tom Kretsinger, Jr. said, “Petsmart is a progressive company which values service. Petsmart expects excellent service and consequently all of Petsmart’s carriers are high-quality service carriers and improved their numbers over the past year. Therefore, this award brings the added honor of competing with the best in the industry and coming out on top two years running. This is truly the NFL of service awards.”
Chris Walsh of Petsmart described to the group Petsmart’s philosophy of providing its customers with the best service and best experience at its stores, stressing that on-time delivery is critical to its success.
The day’s celebration included a breakfast in Liberty provided by Petsmart and a lunch at the shop for mechanics and drivers also provided by Petsmart. ACT associates wore stickers stating “Petsmart and ACT, a Winning Combination” for the festivities. Chris and Shawn were quick to don their own. During the celebration the popular song “Convoy” was played with a slight variation to the lyrics… We’ve got ourselves a PETSMART CONVOY! ACT looks forward to adding to our PETSMART CONVOY.
In addition, in celebration of the close relationship between Petsmart and ACT, ACT employees announced a fundraising drive to purchase Petsmart products to donate to Wayside Waifs, a no-kill animal rescue charity.

Each year, the U.S. EPA SmartWay Transport program recognizes those Partners’ special achievements that significantly reduce the environmental impacts of the freight sector. The award honors organizations that integrate innovative strategies and technologies into their business operations resulting in reduced energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The award recipients are recognized for environmental excellence, recruiting effectiveness, promotional efforts, innovation, and creativity.
For the past several years, ACT has implemented initiatives such as aerodynamic tractors, heating/cooling technology that reduces truck idling, use of low viscosity lubrication, and speed management policies. These actions have greatly improved the company’s operations by reducing pollution and increasing fuel efficiency.
The results have been exceptional. When compared to an operation that has not implemented any actions regarding fuel efficiency, ACT’s programs have reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 33,000 tons, particulate matter by 3 tons, and nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 120 tons. In total, ACT has reduced emissions by 83 tons per truck per year.
“We will continue to search for additional ways to improve our fuel efficiency while reducing both our dependence on foreign oil and the impact on our environment,” said Wayne Anderson, Senior Vice President of Operations for ACT. “This is a program that we firmly believe in and we will continually strive for improvements.”

In February of this year Goodyear/Exel notified American Central Transport, Inc. of ACT's selection as the "Longhaul Truckload Carrier of the Year" for 2005. The carrier selection process was designed to rate carriers who provided not only excellent service to the Goodyear/ Exel partnership but also to their customers.
Some of the criteria for the selection included carriers in the top 20 in volume handled per mode of transportation and carriers that hauled finished good products from Goodyear/Exel plants and warehouses.
American Central Transport was rated #1 overall and ranked first in the following three Carrier Recognition Program measurements:
-
On time performance - 98.94% % of shipments that successfully met on time delivery requirements
-
Claims Score - 100% % of shipments delivered successfully with no claims
-
Survey Score - 77.19% Best Survey Score from the shipping and receiving locations on ranking carriers service levels
In the notification email ACT received, Patrick Hurley, V.P. Supply Chain, stated "The winner in each category provided not only excellent service to the Goodyear/ Exel partnership but also to our customers. All our carriers' efforts in 2005 helped us to enhance operations within our supply chain and continue efforts to provide world class service to our customers."
This award reinforces our "Best in Class" attitude toward customer service and safety. Way to go ACT!
